Nickolas S. Sapidis is currently a Professor of “Computational Design and Analysis of Machine Elements” with the Mechanical Engineering Department of the University of Western Macedonia (Kozani, Greece), where he directs the “Division of Constructions and Materials”. He has been a Professor with the Department of Product & Systems Design Engineering of the University of the Aegean (Syros, Greece), and he has also taught at the Hellenic Air Force Academy, the National Technical University of Athens, the University of Athens, and the Polytechnic University of Catalunya (Barcelona, Spain).

N. Sapidis holds a Diploma (1985) in Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece, an M.A. (1987) in Applied Mathematics from the University of Utah, USA, and an M.S. (1988) in Mechanical and Aerospace Sciences from the University of Rochester, USA. He received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Rochester (USA) in 1993.

N. Sapidis has been pursuing/supervising research on “Mechanical Design”, “Computer-Aided Design (CAD)”, “Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE)”, “Geometric Modeling”, “Virtual Engineering”, and “Computer Graphics”. He is the author of more than 70 papers on the above subjects. His industrial experience on CAD/CAE includes the General Motors R&D Center, the General Motors Design Center (USA), and the Marine Technology Development Co (Greece). Published research results of N. Sapidis have been independently implemented in industrial CAD systems by R&D teams at M.I.T., Intergraph Corp., General Motors Design Centre and Tribon Solutions A.B. (now: AVEVA).

N. Sapidis is a member of the Editorial board of more than ten international scientific journals in the fields of Computer-Aided Design (CAD), Product Lifecycle  Management, Computer Graphics, and Engineering Informatics. N. Sapidis was the editor of the volume “Designing Fair Curves and Surfaces: Shape Quality in Geometric Modeling and CAD”, Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM), Philadelphia, USA, 1994, and has edited or co-edited seven Special Issues for several international research journals, with the most recent being the topical issue “3D Research and Technologies for Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Design”, 3D Research (Springer), vol. 3, no. 2, 2012. N. Sapidis has served on the Program Committee of more than 100 international conferences, and was an “invited Keynote Speaker” for 7 international conferences. N. Sapidis has given “invited lectures” at numerous conferences, Universities and corporations in Asia, Europe and the US.
